Well it usually depends on the how much hair they have. My boys had alot of curls and i gave them their first hair cut when he was about 6 months but usually let most of it grow out till around 3 years of age and than shaved it like a military cut. It sounds like he was born with alot like my boys were and i gave my son his first hair cut.

It is easier to do it at home and put him on the counter with his feet in the sink and let him look at himself in the mirror and you can usually cut pretty easily this will keep him occupied for about 3 minutes max and do his front while he is playing with some toys in the high chair. Just dont make a big deal out of it, otherwise he will sense your stress and get stressed himself.

and if you're worried about yuor child's attention span at the hairdresser, prepare him before your trip. tell him he'll have to sit still then he'll look handsome. i've realized that if you tell him that if he sits still he'll look like someone he looks up to (superman, dad, etc), the kid will be exited. maybe tell him he's a big boy if he sits through the haircut.

OR... a reward might be nice. he's not 1 yet, right? so get him a small toy or something like that.
